HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Years ago I read that we should not treat Martin Luther King day as a holiday--we should go to church, do volunteer work etc. I said if there were ever a day named after me people should be able to do whatever the fuck they want--have a party, go the beach, the mall, get drunk, get high, get laid, stare into space or just sleep if they wanted.

A couple years ago Facebook friend made a remark about how we should not wish people Happy Memorial Day--men and women did not give their lives so we could buy a mattress. So Saturday I told my supervisor to have a solemn and somber Memorial Day. His answer was "no, I 'm gonna have a _________  kind of day--fuck it."

WHAT WOULD ANNE FRANK DO?

Both the left and right are quoting her for their own purpose:

WE SHOULD RE-NAME THIS "KOV-AID"

Unfortunately too many people who should know better have drunk the Ko-Vid Kool-Aid.

THINK GLOBALLY

A couple months ago Scandinavian Airlines did a TV spot which many people found insulting, and not just Scandinavians. It promoted travel and opening borders, saying that was good for everyone. Boy did that come to bite them on the behind. BTW, it was pulled off the air:

FACT OR FICTION?

You decide:

IT'S MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Everyone's a hero now. Or a victim. It used to be you were a hero if you fought in a war and were possibly wounded or killed. Now you're considered a hero if you "risk your life" or "risk your health or the health of others" if you're a cashier at Walmart. Or a "healthcare worker," even if you work in the records or billing department of a hospital and never get NEAR  a patient. Hell, the guy who picks up trash in the train or bus station is probably more likely to die of the Coronavirus. Or some other nasty disease that doesn't garner much sympathy.

SOCIAL DISTANCING EAST GERMAN STYLE

East Germans were told the 810-mile wall was put up for their "protection," not to keep them from escaping. We're told we need to wear masks, stay home, not get within six feet of other people for our "protection." If well say we don't care about getting sick we're told it's to protect OTHER PEOPLE and that we're selfish and want old people to die even if we question it:

THE STUPIDITY AND FUTILITY OF SOCIAL DISTANCING

IT'S HAPPENING

This afternoon I dreamt Russian agents questioned me in a parking lot. Because of something I had on my dashboard. I spoke Hungarian to them.

WHAT A WEEK

I was not furloughed but another one of our guys was. Which meant working all of my hours and most of his. And working at my third job. While feeling dead tired, kind of feverish with a sore throat. And my supervisor couldn't wait a day for me to finish on a decent computer with a decent internet connection

Thursday, May 21, 2020

TODAY IS SUPPOSED TO BE MY DAY OFF

But I am working from home at my third job. With a database that must have been some kid's science project. I could have just as easily done it with a pen and a piece of paper.

I do not want to access your company directory. Or your stupid web site. I tried to call an organization in West Virginia and obeyed the prompts, pressing "9" as directed. This got me to one of their offices in OHIO. The woman had never heard of the man I was trying to call. She asked "do you have social media? We're telling people to use that." And this was part of a MAJOR corporation. They can do better.

POSITIVE NEWS

My mother and everyone in her building have tested negative for the Coronarivus.

FAMILY VALUES

The show that inspired it:

SHELTERING IN PLACE

A term I am coming to hate. Most people in favour of waiting to re-open the country until a vaccine or cure for the Coronavirus is found either have nothing to worry about financially or have never experienced a profound financial loss--their job, their career, their business and/or their home.

AKTION T4

Part of the plan behind it was to save money. Some of its victims lived in nursing homes:

WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE?

Did they never take a statistics course? Or a research methods course?

A '70'S MOVIE THAT HAS MEANING TODAY

AT LEAST 100 THOUSAND PEOPLE DIED IN THE MAOIST PURGES

Some say as many as many as 65 million. So far fewer than 90 thousand have died of the Coronavirus in China. But people don't talk about that:

THIS IS A RIOT

What I needed to take my mind off that Corona crap:

UBER IS GOING DOWNHILL

And I don't just mean directionally. I mean longer pickup times, higher fares and drivers who won't open doors or pull up to the entrance even though you're paying more.

"PROHIBITION HAS MADE NOTHING BUT TROUBLE."

Al Capone

2020 is becoming like 1920--growlers, speakeasies, crooks making huge profits...

THERE, I SAID IT.

I hate Zoom. And Skype. And Facebook chat. This is not on my other blog as it reveals my real name and I don't want to look technophobic.

SORRY, THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN

MY FURLOUGH WEEK IS OVER

At least the first one.

GOT A COUPLE LETTERS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT

Apparently I'm eligible for less than I thought so I'm going to contact them. The worst they can do is say "no."

WASH YOUR HANDS!

Less than a year ago another version of this song was a celebration, not propaganda:

שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

At least one person has compared the quarantine to one long shabbos--stuck at home with your family, nowhere to go, nothing to do.

FLASH IN THE TRAIN

Last month a guy kept staring at me in the train station, then followed me onto the train and flashed me. This wouldn’t have happened on a normal Saturday as most trains are packed. A couple weeks later I had to deal with another creepy guy but at least he didn’t flash me. I heard a woman telling the station manager she was afraid to get onto a train for the same reason.

A co-worker says this will go on until someone gets hurt.

SERIOUSLY, IF YOU THINK YOU’RE BEING FOLLOWED, GET AWAY AND TELL SOMEONE. DON’T WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE THINKING YOU’RE PARANOID, A RACIST ETC. MY LIFE WOULD BE A LOT DIFFERENT IF I HAD DONE THAT SEVEN YEARS AGO.

I KIND OF AGREE WITH THIS WOMAN:

I’m not a healthcare worker but I’ve been working my ass off and no one’s given me as much as a French fry.

MARCH SADNESS

They cancelled all MLB, NBA and NHL games as well as March Madness. One of my Twitter followers says “ Canceling pro teams doesn’t bother me as much as the college teams. These kids worked so hard to get this far. And the seniors - this wasn’t how the season was supposed to end.”

None of my teams were doing that well anyway.

BACK IN THE USSR

There is a Safeway in Washington, D.C. known as the “Soviet Safeway” because of its long lines, empty shelves and rude staff. Now the whole city, heck, the whole country, looks like that:

And this is what Bernie Sanders and his bunch want

THE LUCKY ONE

I have been lucky in that the Coronavirus hysteria has not affected me too much. The main thing is that almost everything opens later and closes earlier so I have to get up earlier and get home later. And pay more for Ubers because trains stop running at nine and busses at eleven. And there is no more Uber Pool or Express which is not always a bad thing.

WE HAVE AT LEAST ONE MOLE UNDER THE LAWN

Hopefully my good-liberal virtue-signaling landlady won’t have them killed.

SOLIDARNOŚĆ

In an effort to make kids not feel bad about missing their graduation people are being told to post their own yearbook photos on Facebook.

About ten years ago they were supposed  to make their fave cartoon characters into their profile pictures to cure child abuse. How’d that work out?

PEOPLE MOST AFFECTED BY THE QUARANTINE

Very old people
People with preexisting medical conditions
Poor people (let’s not mince words and call them “low income” or “economically marginalized.”
People who work at night
People who rely on mass transit
People with poor or no phone/internet connectivity

PARTY LIKE IT’S 1984

Maybe I should watch 1984 again:

WHO’D HAVE THOUGHT I’D BE DRESSING UP TO GO TO THE BANK?

Or the supermarket? Or the post office?

TARDE DE MAYO

Went outside for the first time since Monday. It’s the kind of May afternoon people write about. (Note: the picture was taken earlier, just haven’t had the chance to share yet)

WELCOME TO WALMART

These stores are partly to blame. Normally they ENCOURAGE you to stay longer and spend more money than you intended to:

I DO BELIEVE!

OMG! I got my stimulus payment! It really does exist!

urbanexile@mail.com

BORED

For weeks I have seen social media posts from people who complain about how bored they are. For those who lost their jobs, were furloughed etc I feel sorry for them but for the rest of them I posted this on Facebook and Twitter: “ So you're bored. Wanna give me a ride home? Pick up something at the store for me? I didn't think so.”

Didn’t get any offers.

TRAIN, TRAIN

The brilliant people who decided to close the churches, libraries and fast food restaurants seemed to forget that’s where homeless people hang out. So now they hang out in bus and train stations or in busses and trains themselves. One morning a guy refused to get off the bus even though it was the end of the line.

“SHEDDING”

When I hear “shedding” I think of this:

REALLY?

PEOPLE CAN PRETEND WHAT THEY WANT

The whole Coronavirus issue is now more a political matter than a health matter.

WHO WAS THAT MASKED WOMAN?

And what’s happening to our liberties?

Now that the Coronavirus is in fashion I wonder how many people have forgotten they’re allergic to gluten, lactose intolerant, hypoglycemic or have the Epstein-Barr virus...

THE NEWEST PERCEIVED THREAT FROM ASIA

“Murder hornets!”

Does anyone remember the killer bees?

IT’S FIVE O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE

The quarantine has made me resourceful. I am learning how to make my own whiskey sour mix.

MY EX’S FOURTH WIFE DIED.

He was abusive. If I had married him I wouldn’t be living here, though.

A GOOD THING ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS :

It’s taken away the attention from these two:

I DON’T HAVE THE CORONAVIRUS

But I didn’t think I did in the first place. It was mainly because psycho landlady makes me tell her I’m coming upstairs so she can put her mask on. If I had any thought I was positive I would never have posted on social media until I was 100% sure.

IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT

And this was more than 30 years ago.

Got a letter from Employment Services

THE HYPOCRISY OF THE LEFT

I GOT A NOTE

So I have a note from Homeland Security giving me permission to be on the street. But there is no picture, date of birth, Social Security number etc. It might as well say “please allow ____  on the street, bus, train etc., signed Homeland Security.”

THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR

Since I posted on Facebook that I had been tested for the Coronavirus people have been frantically contacting my boss so he texted me. Nice.

Two people in the other building where I work have tested positive but one was a visitor and I doubt I had contact to the other one.

HE WROTE ME A LETTER

Because I work for an “essential” industry I have a letter from Homeland Security allowing me to be on the streets. So far I have not needed it but I carry it everywhere:

THE QUEEN’S SPEECH

It was actually in April--a rare one for her.

KEEPING IT REAL

TODAY IS MOTHER’S DAY

My 89-year-old mother is in an assisted living  over 900 miles away.

ARBEIT MACHT FREI

Except some of us aren’t allowed to work.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

I know this is old news—I am saving it for posterity:

Some people get hysterical if you get anywhere near them, let alone cough. Last year a movie called “Five Feet Apart” came out. It was about a couple with cystic fibrosis.  Not sure if it also showed beautiful young people farting, puking, having diarrhea or having mucus come out of every orifice.

FLATTENING THE CURVE

The idea was to keep people at home and off the streets as much as possible so we don’t overstress our healthcare system and end up with freezers full of corpses and coffins in the streets the way Italy did. People would still get sick and die, just at a more manageable rate. Now the left has moved the finish line (the whole racetrack, even) and has decided we should not ever go outdoors until the whole world is completely Coronavirus-free:

SCHRÖDINGER’S CAT

SCHRÖDINGER’S VIRUS

WHAT HAPPENED

A bunch of whiny liberals can’t accept that their girl lost almost four years ago so they are punishing the world by holding it hostage and making it stay home. I’ve been luckier than most as I work in an “essential” industry but we lost so much revenue we had to furlough people. Still, I’ve been luckier than most and except for about five hours in March I haven’t had a day off since February. That was to visit my mother in Florida which does not a vacation make.

WHERE THIS STUFF COMES FROM

All content here is either my own work, used with permission or common knowledge/public domain. That means snagged off the Internet Al Gore invented through web searches or social media. You can email me if you want to know more. In all the years I’ve been blogging only one person has asked me to take down a picture they posted.
